Dolphins Cancer Challenge: Ticket distribution
Special Team: Game Day service project
“I’m thrilled to support the Miami Dolphins’ effort to fight cancer by performing at DCC VI in February,” Melissa Etheridge said. “Everyone can be a cancer fighter and I salute those who will ride, walk and volunteer to raise money for cancer research. I hope thousands of South Floridians will join us and I look forward to celebrating their efforts at the finish line!”
General admission tickets are on sale now at DolphinsCancerChallenge.com for $50. Proceeds from the concert will be part of the gift given to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
“We are excited for Sheryl and Melissa’s involvement in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge,” Miami Dolphins President & CEO Tom Garfinkel said. “Like most of us, both women have been touched by cancer and are active in causes that raise awareness and funds for innovative cancer research.”
On February 20, 2016, all routes for DCC VI will lead to Sun Life Stadium. Participants can choose between seven options: from a 5k walk/run to rides 13-100 miles. In addition, there are volunteer opportunities available for anyone who interested in being a cancer fighter.
More information on all of the activities associated with the DCC, along with fundraising requirements for each event and information on the concert, including purchasing tickets, can be found at DolphinsCancerChallenge.com.
About Dolphins Cancer Challenge
The Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins organization as the signature initiative of the Foundation’s health pillar. In part inspired by Dolphins alumnus and long-time radio voice Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich’s courageous battle with cancer, the DCC’s mission is to improve people’s lives through financial support for innovative cancer research at South Florida’s only academic-based cancer center – University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since its inception, the DCC has raised over $11.55 million, donating 100% of participant-raised funds to Sylvester. Every person, fan and age can fight cancer! For additional information, call (305) 943-6799 or visit www. DolphinsCancerChallenge.com. DCC can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/RideDCC and on Twitter at @TackleCancer.
About Sheryl Crow
Sheryl Crow is a nine-time GRAMMY winner who has sold more than 35 million albums around the world and has performed duets with musical luminaries such as Sting and Mick Jagger, has been nominated for an additional 27 GRAMMYs and has released eight studio albums (seven charting Top 10, four of them platinum-plus), a quadruple-platinum greatest hits collection and a Christmas album. Her most recent album, FEELS LIKE HOME, captures the sound of a great and established artist enjoying a kind of fresh start. It features songs on which Crow collaborated with her longtime guitar player and frequent co-writer Jeff Trott (with whom she co-wrote such past Crow classics as “If It Makes You Happy,” “My Favorite Mistake” and “Every Day Is A Winding Road”), as well as such Nashville songwriters as Chris DuBois, Luke Laird, Natalie Hamby and Chris Stapleton, among others. Crow has a combined 40 Top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Mainstream Top 40, Triple A (with the most No.1 singles among women in the chart’s 17-year history) and Hot Country Songs charts, Crow can also count a Top 20 solo country single to her long list of accolades. Sheryl is a passionate supporter of a variety of environmental and health-related charities, including The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The NRDC, The World Food Program and Feeding America.
About Melissa Etheridge
Melissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. For several years, her popularity grew around such memorable originals as “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs” and “Ain’t It Heavy,” for which she won a Grammy® in 1992. Etheridge hit her commercial and artistic stride with her fourth album, Yes I Am (1993). The collection featured the massive hits, “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window,” a searing song of longing that brought Etheridge her second Grammy® Award for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1995, Etheridge issued her highest charting album, Your Little Secret, which was distinguished by the hit single, “I Want to Come Over.” Her astounding success that year led to Etheridge receiving the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996. Known for her confessional lyrics and raspy, smoky vocals, Etheridge has remained one of America’s favorite female singer-songwriters for more than two decades. In February 2007, Melissa Etheridge celebrated a career milestone with a victory in the “Best Song” category at the Academy® Awards for “I Need to Wake Up,” written for the Al Gore documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth. As a performer and songwriter, Etheridge has shown herself to be an artist who has never allowed “inconvenient truths” to keep her down. Earlier in her recording career, Etheridge acknowledged her sexual orientation when it was considered less than prudent to do so. In October 2004, Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer, a health battle that, with her typical tenacity, she won. Despite losing her hair from chemotherapy, Etheridge appeared on the 2005 Grammy® telecast to sing “Piece of My Heart” in tribute to Janis Joplin. By doing so she gave hope to many women afflicted with the disease. Most recently, she released her latest album This Is M.E. in September 2014, which features singles Take My Number, A Little Bit of Me, and Monster. www.melissaetheridge.com | https://twitter.com/metheridge

]]>“The Miami Dolphins are committed to fighting cancer,” said Garfinkel, the current Chairman of the Dolphins Cancer Challenge. “By changing our name to the Dolphins Cancer Challenge and adding new elements to the event, we are hoping to expand our reach by asking everyone in our community to be a cancer fighter and help us raise funds that go directly to fighting the disease.”
In February 2016, fundraising participants now will be able to fight cancer by participating in a 5K walk/run or by choosing from six different cycling rides ending at the stadium; capped off by a fun event and concert. Participants will enjoy VIP access to the concert and general access will be open to the public with proceeds from ticket sales also going to fight cancer. High-profile performers will be announced in the coming weeks when tickets go on sale.
Prior to DCC VI, the Dolphins Cancer Challenge will host two Fall Family Fests this November, with the objective of growing fundraising participants for DCC VI. The first is scheduled for November 8 in Fort Lauderdale, at Holiday Park, with the second November 15 at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. Children ages 3-16 will be able to participate in a kids ride in a car-free, safe location with their families – from short loops up to 8-10 miles. Each event will have activities for the entire family, including a kids zone with bounce houses, face painting, Dolphins Youth Programs activities and other entertainment.
More information on all of the activities associated with the DCC, along with fundraising requirements for each event and information on the concert, can be found at the newly redesigned DolphinsCancerChallenge.com.
